Hi friend,
I’ve been thinking a lot about the changes I’ve been seeing across various creative industries. Almost all of my friends and community are creative professionals, and I’ve noticed that in this particular moment, there is a lot of shifting and pivoting happening. The people around me around figuring out a new way to work.
This constantly changing world is normal for folks that work for themselves, but it does seem like technology is playing a role in making change happen faster. For example, the life cycle of trends seems to be happening faster, and the ability to create content is faster, cheaper and at a scale means we have more supply of it than ever.
As I try to understand what’s going and what this means for the future of creative work, the one thing I’ve noticed myself doing is reaching out to community — from my friend and colleagues to our bookkeeping clients that are all running creative small businesses. These conversations are helping me make it all make sense. And one big takeaway I’ve seen is that the breakneck pace of technology only highlights how valuable these one-to-one human connections are.

5. 👛 The Stigma of New Money (Marie Claire) “People with old money are practically bred to navigate wealth culture. Old money is like a ‘tribe’ and to be raised with it brings an innate understanding of how that tribe operates, like how they gather resources and keep resources.”
6. ⭐ Everyone’s a sellout now (Vox) So you want to be an artist. Do you have to start a TikTok? “While social media hugely increased the number of people who pursued art, it didn’t increase the number of people who can support themselves financially by making it.”

8. 💡 The Labor of Inspiration (More to That) There’s a common belief that inspiration is fleeting, and that its arrival is largely unannounced. While you can set up elaborate rituals to encourage its arrival, you can’t command it to serve you. It’s akin to the rain dance: you can trick yourself into believing that water will fall once you shuffle your feet, but the rain doesn’t give a damn about your sense of rhythm. It will come when it comes.

Hello friend, Here are some numbers that caught my eye this week. Revenue between $10k - $50k and production costs between $30k - $80k. What emerging artists on the 2026 Coachella line up earn and spend in production costs. Compare that to headliners like Justin Beiber’s record-breaking $10M fee. After $500k - $2M in production costs, there’s still a hefty profit. $0.004. What Spotify pays per stream. In California, artists must rack up ~733,000 streams a month in order to earn minimum wage....
Hi there, I had a roommate who, at one point, was one of the most powerful assistants in Hollywood. She was 1 of 4 assistants and her life was chaotic, but when you’re in your twenties, you have the energy for it. One day I remember coming home, walking into the kitchen and seeing several deli platters full of uneaten food. There were multiple loaves of bread and packs of cigarettes. My immediate thought was, “Score.” “Where did all this come from?” I asked my roommate. She was standing in...
Hello there, I’m writing this from a hotel room in Paris, where I’ve been staying for a bit over a week. Since I arrived, the news out of the U.S. has been a steady drumbeat: a military parade during the largest protests on record, political assassinations, attacks exchanged between Iran and Israel, and talk of the U.S. going to war. The headlines shift, but the chaos doesn’t, that part stays the same. From this strange vantage point—physically, far from it all but, emotionally, still wired...
